Okay, so that Sycamore Ceiling Fan kicks all my notions about ceiling fans out the window. When I was writing a story about the air spinners for our September issue, the one thing I learned was that while designs and materials run the gamut of taste, none are supposed to wobble. In fact, I wrote a whole nice little piece about how to un-wobble a wobbler.

Now Australia’s Sycamore Technology has developed a ceiling fan that’s based on the gyrations of one-winged seed pods from Sycamore trees.

Sure,

I’ve seen one-bladed phenoms before, like The Enigma
from Fanimation, but that one intentionally does a Tilt-A-Whirl
impression.

The natural movement is supposed to produce the fan nearly
twice as efficient as traditional bladed examples, so it uses less
energy to give the same cooling effect.

I’m still not certain, however,
how comfortable I could be in a room where there’s a blade continually
dipping down towards me.
