Like most public nowadays, I’m into residential recycling. I’m really glad I bought fabric bags from my mega mart.
But the amount of metal I’ve ever kept out of the landfill doesn’t compare with that desk, salvaged from the engine cowl of scrapped 747.
It was quite a restoration project—the fabricators, MotoArt, had to remove layer after layer of old paint and dings covered up with Bondo. The original aluminum surface was sanded to its mirror polish—complete with the rivets.
For $18,500, the receptionist’s desk isn’t cheap. But whether you want ideas on creative recycling, on a somewhat smaller scale, check out our many salvage projects.
